How to play

Move all 104 cards to the center and four corner foundations.

  • Start the center with the Ace of Clubs, deal eight reserve cards, and expose one waste card.
  • Build the center upward by rank through four Ace-to-King cycles, or start and build each corner from King down to Ace; suits are ignored.
  • Cleared reserves refill from waste and the waste advances automatically from stock; finish without a redeal.

Strategy tips

  • A playable rank may fit the center or a corner, so choose the destination that preserves future access.
  • Removing a reserve card immediately changes both the reserve and waste exposure.
  • The center can hold 52 cards, while each corner stops after one King-to-Ace sequence.

Complete guide

Rules, scoring, and strategy

Windmill Solitaire places the Ace of Clubs at a central foundation, surrounds it with eight exposed reserves, and offers four empty corner foundations. Two decks are divided between a cycling center and four descending corner piles.

The center completes four rank cycles

The center builds upward by rank with King followed by Ace and can hold 52 cards, completing four full Ace-to-King cycles. Suit does not affect placement in this implemented edition.

Four corners descend from Kings

Each corner begins with any King and then builds downward by rank to Ace for thirteen cards. Suits are ignored, so every exposed rank may need a choice between the center and a compatible corner.

Eight reserves refill automatically

A card moved from reserve is replaced by the waste top when one exists. The waste then advances from stock automatically, changing two exposed positions through a single foundation move.

One pass must place all 104 cards

There is no redeal. A card taken directly from waste also causes the next stock card to become exposed, so compare all center and corner targets before advancing the sequence.
