Aces Up is a compact discard patience game played in four columns. New cards arrive in four-card rounds, and exposed cards compete within their suits until the ideal finish leaves only the four Aces.
A card may be discarded only when another exposed card has the same suit and a higher rank. Aces rank above Kings, so an exposed Ace can authorize removal of every lower exposed card in that suit but is never discarded itself.
The top card of any nonempty column may move into an empty column. The move does not discard a card, but it can expose the card beneath and create a new same-suit comparison before the next deal.
A new round places one stock card on every column. This implementation enables the deal only after no discard or useful empty-column transfer remains, making it harder to bury an action that was still available.
Winning means removing 48 cards and leaving exactly the four Aces. Watch suits that have no exposed high card, because several lower cards of that suit can accumulate until their Queen, King, or Ace becomes available.
The discardable card must have a lower rank than another exposed card of the same suit; color alone is not enough.
Aces are high in Aces Up. They outrank Kings and remain as the four intended final cards.
After the current layout has no legal discard or productive move into an empty column, the next four-card round can be dealt.
